The article is devoted to the justification of the main provisions of the methodology of international law. The essence of the methodology
of international law and its significance, research approaches to defining the methodology and its structure are revealed.
The study is based on the undeniable relevance of the methodology of international law for conducting international legal research, including
drawing attention to the fact that the use of philosophical and methodological principles in the process of scientific research often becomes the key
to the development of international law as a science.
The methodology of international law as a multi-level hierarchical entity complex in its structure is considered. The expediency of using
methodological pluralism is substantiated.
Insufficient attention from the scientific community to the problem of the development of the methodology of international law is emphasized.
Eclecticism, the uncritical borrowing of methodological methods of knowledge from other legal and non-legal sciences without their proper
reference to use in international legal research, have become widespread.
The authors pay special attention to axiological, cultural, civilizational, hermeneutic, synergistic and necessary methodological approaches
to knowledge, their specificity and manifestations in international law.
In the course of scientific research, a number of various general scientific and special-legal methods of scientific knowledge were used, in
particular, historical, system-functional, comparative-legal methods, the method of analogy, legal modeling and legal forecasting.
The conclusion was formed that the methodology of international law, firstly, should be based on the principle of methodological pluralism,
which will not only allow to provide a qualitative meaningful analysis of the phenomena of international legal reality, but also to draw certain
analogies that are important for the development of the science of international law; secondly, it will provide a versatile study of the phenomena
of international legal reality.
