Питання національної ідентичності в романі Чімаманди Нґозі Адічіє “Американа”

Abstract

У роботі досліджено художнє осмислення національної ідентичності в романі Чімаманди Нґозі Адічіє “Американа”. У центрі уваги перебуває не загальна історія переїзду з Нігерії до США, а зміна самоопису персонажів у ситуації міграції, расового маркування та повернення. Іфемелу, Обінзе, тітка Уджу й Дайк по-різному стикаються з тим, що походження за кордоном перестає бути звичною біографічною подробицею й перетворюється на соціальний знак. У роботі враховано постколоніальний, діаспорний, расовий, гендерний і мовний аспекти твору. Доведено, що національна ідентичність у романі не подана як готова сутність. Вона проявляється через акцент, волосся, пам’ять про Нсукку й Лагос, блогові записи Іфемелу, лондонську невидимість Обінзе та мотив повернення, який не знімає внутрішньої напруги, а відкриває новий рівень саморозуміння.

The paper examines the artistic representation of national identity in Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah. The focus is not on migration as a simple movement from Nigeria to the United States, but on the transformation of the characters’ self-description under conditions of displacement, racial classification and return. Ifemelu, Obinze, Aunty Uju and Dike encounter different versions of the same problem: outside Nigeria, origin stops being a neutral biographical fact and becomes a social sign. The study takes into account postcolonial, diasporic, racial, gender and linguistic dimensions of the novel. It is argued that national identity in Americanah is not represented as a fixed essence. It appears through accent, hair, memories of Nsukka and Lagos, Ifemelu’s blog writing, Obinze’s invisibility in London and the motif of return, which does not resolve the conflict but opens another level of self-understanding.
